How do elite showjumping horses differ from non-elite horses?

Research on elite showjumping horses (those jumping 1m40+) and non-elite showed that both horses used the same pattern of muscle activation to jump a 1m course. However the non-elite horses were using significantly more muscular effort at this height than the elite horses. This might explain why the elite horses are able to carry on and jump bigger fences, jumping is just easier for them.
